Start with the problem
We only recommend AI where it genuinely improves an outcome. If a simpler approach works better, we say so.

The principles we apply when teaching AI, running the AI Problem Lab, and helping organisations adopt AI tools.
01
We only recommend AI where it genuinely improves an outcome. If a simpler approach works better, we say so.
02
AI outputs are treated as drafts. A person remains accountable for decisions that affect people, especially in schools and public services.
03
We do not put personal, pupil or commercially sensitive data into AI tools without a lawful basis and an agreed data handling approach with the organisation.
04
We teach learners and partners to test for bias and to document known limitations of any model or prototype they build.
05
Where AI has generated or substantially shaped content or a decision, that should be disclosed.
06
Learners are encouraged to use AI openly in their work and to explain how they used it. Passing off unverified AI output as original analysis is not acceptable.
07
This policy should be reviewed as the technology and UK guidance change.
